PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A dog has been reunited with her owner after someone stole her outside a New Seasons Market grocery store in northeast Portland.

The incident happened in a matter of seconds Wednesday morning. Video taken by a Good Samaritan shows a person untie the dog from a bike rack and then ride away on their bike with the dog.

“That’s crazy, just like that,” owner Kyle Bruser said as he watched the video, which was shared all over social media.

Bruser said he asked a friend to watch his dog June while he and his wife were getting a house inspection Wednesday. He never thought they’d be missing a member of the family hours later.

“It was brutal and the whole time I was thinking, as long as this person, whoever took her, doesn't get on the MAX,” he said.

But Bruser says animal control officers told him that person did get on the MAX with June.

“And then right as the door was closing, June, like, shook free and jumped off the MAX and then the MAX took off,” he said.

Bruser believes June only had one thing on her mind: getting home. He says she did, thanks to another Good Samaritan who spotted June at the Providence Park MAX stop and notified Multnomah County Animal Services.

“Definitely a proud day to be a Portlander,” Bruser said.

He says it was all thanks to June's microchip that they were reunited.

Portland police say the thief is believed to be a white man in his 30s. At the time, the man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and riding an orange bike. Police say he could be charged with theft in the first degree.
