PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

There Is going to be a major volcanic eruption this weekend at OMSI, but don’t worry about any lava.

The museum will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest baking soda and vinegar volcano on Sunday.

Construction on the 34-foot tall volcano began July 12 and is nearly complete outside the museum.

The event is celebrating the recent opening of the Pompeii exhibit, which is filled with artifacts from the Roman city buried in ash.

The event starts at 11 a.m. and the “eruption” is scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. There will be an encore eruption Wednesday night for OMSI After Dark visitors.
