Man killed in Salem parking lot shooting

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A 25-year-old man died early Saturday morning after being shot in a Salem parking lot.

At 3:26 a.m., police were called to the 3100 block of Ryan Drive Southeast on a report of a shooting involving a security guard and another person. 

Officers found a man, identified as Jose Francisco Moreno, in a parking lot between a Denny's and a Best Western. Moreno had been shot and a security guard, identified as 33-year-old Gregory Weston Capwell, was present.

Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene. Capwell, who is employed by Homefront Security, was interviewed by investigators.

Homefront Security provided FOX 12 with the following statement: "At this time we are unable to comment on any information regarding this incident as it is currently under investigation"

Police said the investigation of the shooting is ongoing and ask anyone with information on the case to call the Salem Police Department tip line at 503-588-8477. 

A candlelight vigil will be held for Moreno at 6 p.m. Sunday at John Neal Memorial Park in Lyons.
