Indian Creek Fire burning in Columbia River Gorge grows

COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, OR (KPTV) -

A wildfire that has closed several trails in the Columbia River Gorge is growing.

The Indian Creek Fire has burned 63 acres, which is up from about 15 acres on Friday.

The fire is burning in steep and rugged terrain about eight miles up the Eagle Creek Trail. Fire crews say it is unsafe for them to battle the fire on the ground, so they are using helicopters to drop water to keep it from spreading.

The Forest Service says the trails to Punch Bowl Falls and High Bridge are open, but the trail to Tunnel Falls is closed.

The fire started on July 4th and the cause is under investigation.
