PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police officers took a minor into custody for allegedly shining a laser at a Portland Police Bureau airplane Monday night.

At 11:30 p.m., the Portland Police Bureau's Air Support Unit reported receiving many laser strikes from the area of Southeast 90th Place and Victor Lane.

PPB’s East Precinct said officers were assisting Oregon State Police troopers in tracking suspects who stole a vehicle in the area of Southeast 82nd Avenue and Powell Boulevard.

Police said during the aerial patrol, someone pointed a laser at the plane that was assisting the search effort.

Officers tracked down the minor responsible and the suspect was taken to the Multnomah County juvenile detention center. The minor was identified as a 12-year-old.

Police would like to remind the public that shining a laser at any aircraft is extremely dangerous and violates several laws.
