PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Trail Blazers have traded Allen Crabbe to the Brooklyn Nets.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN first reported Tuesday morning that Crabbe was traded to the Nets in exchange for Andrew Nicholson.

However, Wojnarowski reports, Nicholson will be waived by Portland.

The Blazers confirmed the deal Tuesday afternoon, but did not confirm Nicholson would be released.

"Allen has been a model teammate on the court and ambassador for the organization off the court," said Neil Olshey, president of basketball operations.  "He will be missed by all of us who shared the last four seasons with him. We wish him the best of luck as he continues his career in Brooklyn."

The trade appears to have been made to shed salary, as ESPN’s Bobby Marks reports the move will drop Portland’s luxury tax bill from $48.3 million to $4.4 million.

The Nets attempted to sign Crabbe last offseason, but the Blazers matched Brooklyn’s four-year, $75 million offer.

Wojnarowski reports the teams had to wait one year to make a deal after that, per league rules.

Crabbe was one of the NBA’s best three-point shooters last season, shooting 44.4 percent from behind the three-point line. He averaged 10.7 points in 28.5 minutes per game last season for the Blazers.
