KELSO, WA (KPTV) -

A procession is planned for Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Fritz.

Fritz was put down after a sudden and serious illness earlier this month.

A small procession of marked patrol cars will begin in the Vancouver area Thursday and travel north on Interstate 5 to Tennant Way, then head north on 3rd Avenue and past the Hall of Justice in Kelso at around 3:30 p.m.

The public is invited to observe the procession and pay their respects at the Hall of Justice, 312 S.W. 1st Ave.

People are asked to stand on the sidewalk on the river side of the Hall of Justice or observe the procession anywhere along 3rd Avenue between Tennant Way and the Hall of Justice.

There is public parking on the south, north and east sides of the building.

The sheriff’s office will recognize Fritz’s service at a short ceremony later in the day that is open to local law enforcement officers.

Fritz came to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office in 2009 and was a few months away from retirement when he died.

Deputy Brent Harris and Fritz accumulated more than 1,000 hours of training and more than 15,000 hours of in-service time. They made dozens of captures for many serious crimes.
