A 19-year-old was sentenced to nearly two years in prison for firing shots at a group of people in a Vancouver parking lot.

Jace Koch pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree assault and felon in possession of a firearm Wednesday.

Koch was arrested in March.

Court documents state he fired at least two shots following a confrontation in the parking lot of Vancouver Plaza. The incident was recorded by a witness.

Koch told investigators he was approached by 20 to 30 people after he performed a “burnout” in his car near a gathering of people.

Koch said threats were made against him and his passenger and he attempted to drive away, but the group chased after him and kicked the trunk of his car, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The affidavit states Koch feared he was going to be attacked, so he fired two shots, which he claimed were blanks, and said he was not aiming at anyone and did not intend to hurt anyone.

Court documents state he tossed the gun out of the window between Auto Mall Drive and SR-500.

Koch also pleaded guilty in court Wednesday for an unrelated domestic violence incident. He was sentenced between the two cases to one year and 10 months in prison.
