KELSO, WA (KPTV) -

Members of the community joined the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office in saying goodbye to K-9 Fritz.

The sheriff’s office had a procession of patrol cars that started in the Vancouver area and traveled on Interstate 5 to Kelso and past the Hall of Justice.

People were invited to come out, observe the procession and pay their respects to Fritz.

Fritz was put down after a sudden and serious illness earlier this month.

Fritz and his handler Deputy Brent Harris accumulated more than 1,000 hours of training and more than 15,000 hours of in-service time. They made dozens of captures after Fritz arrived in Cowlitz County in 2008.

Fritz was a few months from retirement when he died.
