PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man police describe as a "prolific burglar" is locked up after a phone app helped neighbors lead police right to him.

Caitlin Magbee was working from home in the Eastmoreland neighborhood Wednesday afternoon when she saw police confront a burglary suspect. But before police even showed up, Magbee knew he was on the loose.

"I received an alert on my phone through Nextdoor. And so I saw, oh someone's in somebody's backyard," said Magbee. "We've had quite a few of these incidents lately and it's put us all on high alert."

Neighbors say a woman who had another burglary recently, saw someone tripped the motion-sensing camera in her backyard. She called police and sent the video out on Nextdoor.

Within moments, neighbors were tracking the burglar down and posting updates about his location.

"And then eventually, this guy went down about eight houses and was hiding under some hydrangeas in our neighbor's backyard where the police arrested him," said Dick Hazel.

Officers arrested 41-year-old Lucas Forzley. He has no criminal history, but records show he said he started using meth after he lost his job eight months ago.

The District Attorney is charging Forzley with 10 counts of burglary.

According to reactions on Nextdoor, neighbors are very relieved he was caught.

"I was hoping it would be finally catching this guy because he's been doing this for months," said Hazel.

Magbee is also grateful for this kind of technology that can galvanize her neighbors.

"When something like this happens, it's nice to see everyone come together and mobilize and help each other out," Magbee said.

Forzley was arraigned on the burglary charges Thursday afternoon.
