GRANTS PASS, OR (KPTV) -

A man and woman who stole $50,000 from an 83-year-old woman were arrested at a country music festival in southern Oregon after purchasing tickets for the event with money they took from the victim, according to police.

Martha Coghill, 48, was working as a caregiver for the elderly woman in Grants Pass. Investigators said she and her husband, 55-year-old Donald Coghill, both of Grants Pass, stole around $50,000 from the woman over a two-year period.

Police said they used the stolen money to pay vet bills, utility bills, cell phone bills and buy liquor, concert tickets and a used car.

The Coghills were arrested as they entered the Country Crossing Music Festival in Central Point on Thursday with tickets they purchased using funds from the victim’s accounts, according to investigators.

Oregon State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office partnered up to make the arrests Thursday.

Martha Coghill was booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment, theft and aggravated theft. Donald Coghill is facing the charge of first-degree theft.

Oregon State Police first received information about this case from the Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services on Jan. 20. The subsequent months-long investigation between the agencies led to the arrests.
