MARION COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has a new team member.

The agency announced Sunday that earlier this summer they welcomed a new K-9 deputy to the team. Zeke is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, and his handler is Senior Deputy Peter Marcellais.

"Zeke is a very playful puppy and his favorite thing to do is work," Marcellais said in a sheriff's office news release. "He will shake with excitement when I get him suited up and ready for our shift."

The two had their first apprehension last weekend while assisting Woodburn Police in a search for a wanted subject, according to the sheriff’s office. They finished their K-9 handler certification school in May.

The sheriff’s office says the purchase of Zeke was made possible by a donation from Marion County resident Don Mortensen, who made the donation in honor of his late wife and their love for animals.

Zeke and Marcellais recently visited Mortensen to show their appreciation.
