Famed authors in Portland for Willamette Writers Conference
Authors and screenwriters from across the U.S. will be gathering in Portland later this week for the annual Willamette Writers Conference, and this year the lineup includes some celebrity authors.
The 48th annual conference runs Thursday through Saturday at the Sheraton near Portland International Airport, and this year famed author Christopher Moore, best known for his internationally-bestselling book “Lamb.,” is flying in to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The keynote speaker at this year's Willamette Writers Conference is actor Stephen Tobolowsky, who fans may recognize from the movie “Groundhog Day” or for his role on the HBO hit series “Silicon Valley.”
Orit Ofri, the president of the Willamette Writers, said that while there are many big-name authors at the conference each year, it's also a great place for someone who wants to get into a writing career.
