PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Garbage collectors around the metro area have a request: Take out the trash early this week.

Waste Management and Waste Collections of Washington advised that drivers will be working earlier shifts to try and beat the heat.

Waste Management drivers will begin neighborhood collections at 4 a.m. this week. People in the Waste Management service area should put out all their carts the night before.

Drivers will be on regular routes and services will not be interrupted or changed.

"Our drivers work 10- to 11-hour days," said Steve Wolfe, district manager for Waste Management-Portland.. "Getting them off the streets earlier will reduce the potential for heat-related illnesses.”

Waste Collections of Washington said drivers will begin their routes at 6 a.m. this week in Clark County.

People there are asked to place their carts and cans out well in advance of that time.
