FAIRVIEW, OR (KPTV) -

A 20-year-old man whose body was recovered Monday from Blue Lake has been identified.

Emergency crews responded to the lake in the Fairview area Monday afternoon after a paddle boat took on water and its two passengers attempted to swim to safety. Deputies said the initial rescue efforts to save the male passenger turned into a recovery operation.

On Tuesday morning, the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office told FOX 12 the drowning victim was identified as Noorullah Tajik.

The examiner's office said it will not be performing an autopsy on Tajik, as autopsies are not allowed in Islam.

Instead, a doctor will examine Tajik's body to determine his cause of death.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help with Tajik's funeral costs.
