Investigation of stolen guns in Douglas County leads to 5 arrests in Eugene

DOUGLAS COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

An investigation into a stolen truck and 18 stolen guns in Douglas County led to five arrests in the Eugene area, according to deputies.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a 2004 Ford F250 pickup that was stolen from the 6000 block of Highway 99 North in Winchester on July 24.

Two days later, deputies responded to a burglary at a home on the 4000 block of Rice Valley Road in Yoncalla. Eighteen firearms were stolen during the burglary.

Douglas County deputies were assisted by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Sutherlin Police Department and Eugene Police Department in locating the stolen pickup at a Motel 6 in Eugene on Monday.

A traffic stop was made as a suspect attempted to drive away from the motel in the truck.

A second traffic stop was conducted on a bus that had been associated with the people in the pickup. Deputies said all 18 stolen guns were found on the bus.

Five people were arrested in all.

Christopher Robert Helm, 33, of Yoncalla, was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and felon in possession of a firearm.

Jason Michael Vigil, 37, of Eugene, was arrested on charges of theft by receiving and felon in possession of a firearm.

Robin Lynn Vigil, 30, of Eugene, was arrested on the charge of theft by receiving.

Matthew David Tong, 39, and Jessica Nicole Blessent, 29, both of Eugene, were arrested on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

All five suspects were booked into the Douglas County Jail.
