WOODLAND, WA (KPTV) -

An 18-year-old driver is facing the charge of vehicular assault after a crash on SR-503 near Woodland led to eight people going to the hospital.

Emergency crews responded to the highway near Butte Hill Road at 10:27 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said Corey A. Pearson, 18, of Woodland, was driving a 1996 Dodge Avenger south on SR-503 and failed to stop at a stop sign.

The Avenger went into the roadway and was hit by a 2012 Dodge Ram driven by a 63-year-old man from Los Gatos, California.

The driver of the pickup and three passengers between the ages of 60 and 62 were taken to the hospital for treatment.

There were also three passengers in the Dodge Avenger. They are between 15 and 19 years old and they were all taken to the hospital, as well.

One person was taken to the hospital on a medical helicopter.

The drivers and passengers were all wearing seat belts, according to police. Both vehicles were totaled.

Troopers said Pearson is facing the charge of vehicular assault in connection with the crash.
