A woman is accused of slashing a Vancouver police officer in the face with a knife.

Mariah Dickison, 26, appeared in court on Tuesday. She is being charged with first-degree assault.

Vancouver police said on Monday night officers were called to the report of an assault on Northeast Plains Way.

Police say Dickison had a "large metal object" in her hands and when officers pulled up, she took off. Officers used a Taser on Dickison but when they tried to take her into custody, she pulled out a steak knife and slashed an officer in the face.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a minor injury.

Dickison's bail is set at $200,000. She is due back in court on Friday.
