PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

From TriMet delays downtown to power outages out in Wilsonville, city crews scrambled to get power back up and running for thousands.

A number of customers lost their power out in Wilsonville Tuesday. Rob Bany was one of them.

"I might have to go sleep in the car," Bany said jokingly.

Bany said his power went out around 3 p.m.

"This is actually nice compared to outside but still a little warmer than I'd like it to be."

He was not the only one feeling the heat. He said he came home to a very thirsty puppy.

"Molly's been sucking down water pretty much since I got home."

Bany's two cats also sought shelter from the sun. One was lying under a piece of paper while the other slept on the cool, kitchen tile.

On the bright side, his apartment faces east. Bany believes this helps keep it a lot cooler at night.

"I can only imagine how hot the rooms are over on the other side!"

Back in southeast, Portland General Electric worked around the clock to get the power back on for thousands who came home to a stuffy house.

PGE spokesperson Stan Sittser said this kind of heat is just the beginning,

"It's gonna put our system to the test," said Sittser.

According to Sittser, city crews are ready with at least a hundred transformers spread out over the city to be installed at a moments notice over the next few days. All they are asking for is people's patience.

"If somebody has an outage, do call us! Report it online with your smartphone or computer, don't assume that we know it, tell us, and then we'll respond as quickly as possible," said Sittser.

PGE said their crews are prepared to work long hours over the next couple of days to ensure businesses, homes and apartments stay cool.

From an extremely challenging day across the city to even more trouble with TriMet downtown, plus issues with its computer network and ticketing machines.

TriMet apologized to its customers for the inconvenience.
