PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Parks & Recreation is shutting down all its outdoor pools due to air quality issues Thursday and all day Friday.

The agency announced that all outdoor pools would close following morning swim lessons Thursday. Indoor pools were set to remain open on regular schedules.

Temperatures in the area were expected to top 100 degrees again Thursday.

Smoke from wildfires in British Columbia was also blanketing the skies over the region.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality reported Thursday that air quality was registering as unhealthy throughout the metro area.

People were advised to avoid intense outdoor activity, with children, the elderly and people with chronic lung or heart conditions especially at risk.

All Portland Parks & Recreation camps were also moved indoors or canceled if no indoor options were available.
