DALLAS, OR (KPTV) -

A brush fire burned five acres and temporarily closed Highway 22 in Polk County on Thursday.

The Oregon Department of Transportation announced the highway closure in both directions at Milepost 12, about 18 miles east of Highway 18, at around 12:15 p.m.

Detours were put in place using Kings Valley Highway, Perrydale Road and Highway 51.

Firefighters said the fire appears to have started from a malfunction on a vehicle driving through the area.

The fire burned through heavy grass and brush before it was contained.

The highway was reopened once the fire was under control.

There were no injuries and buildings in the area were not threatened by the fire.
