Morrison Bridge reopening delayed two days

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland commuters will have to avoid the Morrison Bridge a bit longer than expected – it won’t reopen until Sunday.

The Morrison Bridge was scheduled to reopen Friday, but Multnomah County reported Thursday that plan had to be postponed.

The bridge will now reopen Sunday by 8 p.m. since concrete on the bridge needs additional time to set.

“The bridge closure is imperative since the vibrations from traffic can damage the new concrete while it heals and hardens,” the county said.

The full closure extension means drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians will have to wait two more days to access the bridge.

The Morrison Bridge will have another closure next month for more concrete work.

The contractor working on the bridge construction expects to complete the project by the end of October.
