KEIZER, OR (KPTV) -

A man suspected of assault who barricaded himself in a Keizer residence was peacefully taken into custody Thursday morning.

At 6:17 a.m., Keizer police officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance at 7225 Wheatland Road North.

When officers arrived to the scene, they found a male victim who was assaulted during the reported incident.

The victim was transported to Salem Health by Keizer Fire District paramedics. Police said the extent of his injuries was unknown.

Keizer and Salem police officers at the scene negotiated with a male suspect, who was identified as the younger brother of the victim, when he refused to leave the residence. The suspect was described by police as having a mental issue or injury.

Police closed Wheatland Road North at Parkmeadow Drive Northeast to vehicle and pedestrian traffic while the situation was being resolved.

Salem SWAT was on site while a warrant to enter the home was being sought, but the man peacefully surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody.
