BENTON COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

One person has died after a single-vehicle crash involving a dump truck on Highway 99 West Friday afternoon.

Benton County Sheriff's Office said Gary Henderson, from Salem, was driving a 2005 Peterbuilt Dump Truck north on Highway 99W around 1:30 p.m. when a rear tire malfunctioned and blew apart, causing Henderson to lose control of the vehicle. The dump truck flipped onto its side and came to a rest on both lanes of the highway, just south of Tampico Road.

Henderson was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with serious injuries.

BCSO said Henderson died at the hospital several hours later.

The highway was closed for about two hours while deputies investigated the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Deputy Daniel Ball at 541-766-6858.
