FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

A City of Forest Grove truck that was stolen on Friday was recovered in downtown Portland Saturday.

Forest Grove Police Department says with help from the Portland Police Bureau, the truck was recovered near Southwest 2nd and Alder. The keys were not inside the truck but there were no other reported damage.

The city-owned truck was stolen early Friday morning when 19-year-old Jose Manuel Bernabe-Hernandez came up to a city worker at Talisman Park near Willamina Avenue and began asking questions about becoming employed by the city.

Police say Bernabe-Hernandez then became belligerent. The worker said the teen then took off running toward the worker’s city-owned truck, driving away at a high rate of speed.

Officers later spotted the truck near the area of Verboort Road and Highway 47 driving recklessly and crossing lanes into oncoming traffic. The officers stopped their pursuit for the safety of the public.

Officers noted there was a passenger, identified as 19-year-old Jonathan Varona-Nieto, in the truck during the pursuit.

Both Bernabe-Hernandez and Varona-Nieto have not yet been located.
