Random shootings plague intersection in Molalla

MOLALLA, OR (KPTV) -

A woman's car was hit by a bullet in Molalla during the early hours of July 25 that left a hole in her trunk.

Amber, who did not want FOX 12 to reveal her last name, said she was driving down Barnards Road in Molalla at about 3 a.m. when her car was hit.

When asked about what she heard, Amber said, “One shot. I had just crossed Canby-Marquam Highway and I heard the sound and I immediately thought my car just got shot at.”

Amber said she pulled off into a nearby driveway to check for damage but did not see anything until the next morning.

“It wasn't until the next day I saw the hole,” she said.

Steve Renhard, who lives just a few houses down from the intersection, said the late night shootings have been going on for the last couple weeks in the same spot Amber described.

“Usually after 10:30, sometimes between 12 and 3 o'clock in the morning,” he said.

On Saturday night, Renhard told FOX 12 he heard them again as they echoed through his bedroom window.

“I went out and stood behind the tree because they're so close and I knew I could see the muzzle shot something, but they didn't fire after that for at least the next hour or so,” he said.

While the damage to Amber's car was fixed, her mind fixates on the harsh reality – she could have been hit.

“It’s scary thinking if I was going a little bit slower or if I had kids with me or if I had somebody else with me, it scares … it scares the crap out of me,” she said.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says five similar incidents have been reported. Unfortunately, they said they do not have enough evidence to continue with the investigation at this time.
