PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Crews fought an east Portland apartment fire, which displaced more than a dozen people early Wednesday morning.

At 3:30 a.m., firefighters were called to 11100 East Burnside Street. When they responded, they found smoke and flames coming from one vacant apartment, with the fire spreading to the attic.

While working to extinguish the fire, crews looked for trapped occupants. Everyone in the apartment complex was evacuated to safety.

Portland Fire & Rescue said the fire was quickly put out and there were no injuries reported.

While firefighters were on scene, the area was closed to traffic and MAX service was affected.

At its peak, the fire reached two alarms.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced.
