Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man suspected of trying to take a toddler from a woman at a Beaverton playground last month.

Beaverton police released a sketch of the suspect Wednesday for an incident that occurred on July 11.

Gilma Matias said she was at the Beaver Creek Apartments playground at 12270 Southwest Center Street with her children when a man approached them and said he wanted her toddler.

Police said Wednesday that the man “was dirty in appearance and pushing a shopping cart. When he saw the mother with the baby, he aggressively approached her.”

The suspect grabbed the child’s arm or hand before a maintenance worker intervened. Police said the man then left the area and officers responded to the scene about an hour later.

Police described the man as a white 30 to 35-year-old who is 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. He is said to have dark brown hair with some gray and lighter eyes and is missing upper teeth.

The man was last seen wearing an auburn colored T-shirt and dirty blue jeans.

Beaverton police are asking anyone who has seen the suspect to call (503) 629-0111 and reference case number 17-1921057.
