Salem woman jumps on car of purse theft suspects; police make 3 arrests

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Three people are facing robbery and assault charges in Salem after police said they stole two women’s purses and hit one of them with their car.

The mother and her adult daughter were at a Chipotle restaurant on Commercial Street Southeast on Sunday when police said a man came in a grabbed their purses.

Police said it was 31-year-old Russel Taylor and he ran out to a car where Amanda Brown and Angel Rogers were waiting. The two victims followed and police said one of them lunged at Taylor near the car, but lost her balance and fell.

Then, the other woman stood in front of the car to try to stop Taylor from driving off. Police said when he accelerated toward her, she jumped on the hood of the car and Taylor allegedly kept going, forcing her to fall off.

Both women were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Officers soon found and arrested all three suspects. Investigators said they caught one of the females suspects trying to flush some of the stolen property down a toilet.

All three suspects are facing charges of robbery, assault and theft.
