PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A north Portland family is left with no vehicles and a scorched home after a dumpster fire got out of control.

The family says they woke up around 1 a.m. Wednesday and saw 30-foot flames outside their home. They say they're lucky their home is still standing thanks to the quick actions of the Portland Fire Department..

Crews put out the dumpster fire in the Aaron's parking lot, which is right next door to the family's home.

Unfortunately the flames was able to spread to the family's two vehicles before being extinguished. One of the vehicles is a van that the family depends on for their business.

Now the family has no vehicles, and they're forced to stop their business until everything gets sorted out.

Employees at Aaron's say they have surveillance video that shows a man, who appears to be homeless, starting the fire with a piece of cardboard. Fire investigators are working on the cause.

According to Portland police, no one has been arrested.
