The mayor of Portland is set to formally introduce the city's new head of police Thursday afternoon.

Wheeler spent several months conducting a nationwide search for a new police chief.

Outlaw is a deputy chief of police in Oakland, California and her move to Portland is make history. She will be the Rose City’s first African-American female police chief.

Outlaw is expected to assume her position in early October, replacing Mike Marshman who was appointed by former Portland Mayor Charlie Hales.

Marshman served as police chief for a little more than a year and plans to retire once Outlaw takes the job.

FOX 12 will be streaming the introduction of Outlaw live online. Viewers can tune in to the 1 p.m. event on the FOX 12 web live stream
