(MEREDITH) -- A woman who was badly injured when a giant tree in New York City's Central Park fell on her and her three young sons is filing a lawsuit for $200 million, WCBS reports.

Anne Monoky Goldman, 39, was walking through the park with her newborn son strapped to her chest when the tree uprooted on Aug. 15. Her 3- and 4-year-old boys were in a stroller.

Witnesses said they heard a cracking sound just seconds before the tree crashed and pinned the family underneath.

Goldman temporarily lost consciousness and broke her neck while protecting her boys. Doctors have since ordered her not to move her neck for three months, according to WCBS. Currently, she can only walk with assistance but could experience severe complications if her neck does not properly heal.

Her son Grant, 3, was also hospitalized due to a fractured skull. His brothers were examined but not injured, the family told WCBS.

On Wednesday, her attorneys announced they plan to file the lawsuit against the city and Central Park Conservancy, which is responsible for maintaining the park's trees.

In August, representatives from the Conservancy told WCBS the tree had passed its annual inspection in November 2016, and showed no signs or decay or disease at the time.

Goldman's lawyers are investigating how city trees are inspected and maintained, hoping this lawsuit will ensure such a tragedy is never repeated.

The legal team said they’re asking for such a large amount because her family's life has been turned upside down and they want to send a clear message to the city.
