HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

Hillsboro police are searching for a suspect who they say used a knife in an attempt to get inside a home Friday morning.

At 3:20 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 6800 block of East Main Street.

The homeowner told FOX 12 he saw a possible intruder cut plastic that was put up to cover a door to the kitchen area. He fired a warning shot pointed at the floor and the suspect fled.

Police don’t believe the suspect is hit.

Officers and a K-9 searched for the suspect in wetlands behind the home but the suspect was not located.

The homeowner reported his 1969 Mercedes Benz 280 SLK was stolen from the home Thursday night when he returned from shopping. He saw his home was burglarized as the windows on two of the residence's rear doors were shattered.

The homeowner covered the broken windows with plastic.

Police said they are not connecting the Thursday night and Friday morning incidents at this time.

The suspect the homeowner saw is described as a white man who is approximately 6 feet tall and was wearing dark clothing.

Police found the Mercedes in the 400 block of Southeast 72nd Avenue after a woman who watched the Friday morning news and spotted the car called in a tip just after 6 a.m.

She had first noticed the car the night before because it was a classic and had its convertible top down.
