Local Veterans Day deals for those who have served

To recognize Americans who have answered the call of duty in the armed services, several local deals are going on in honor of Veterans Day.

Here are some things veterans can take advantage of in the Portland metro area and beyond.

Attractions and events:

Animal-loving veterans, active duty military members and their families can visit the Oregon Zoo free of charge Friday and Saturday.

The Oregon Historical Society museum is offering free admission to all veterans, active duty military members and their families all weekend.

The U.S. Forest Service is waiving fees at day-use recreation sites in Oregon and Washington Saturday and Sunday.

Also for Saturday and Sunday, all visitors can visit national parks for free.

Wordstock, Portland's annual book festival happening Saturday, is allowing veterans and active duty military members to attend for free.

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is offering free admission for a veteran and a guest Friday and Saturday.

For national chains, Offers.com has put together a list of dozens of restaurants and businesses offering Veterans Day deals. 

Other:

The Humane Society of Southwest Washington is celebrating Veterans Day by waiving adoption fees for veterans and active duty military members. The special offer starts Saturday and lasts the whole month.
