PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man pleaded guilty to the charge of criminally negligent homicide in connection with a deadly crash in southeast Portland.

Israel Aldama-Sanchez, 24, entered his plea in court Monday. He was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison.

Aldama-Sanchez was arrested in March.

Investigators said he hit a pedestrian, 37-year-old Corey Deshawn Simmons, near Southeast 148th Avenue and Stark Street.

Deshawn was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness called 911 and said the driver left the scene in a dark-colored vehicle.

Aldama-Sanchez turned himself in to police early the following morning.

He initially faced a charge of felony hit and run, but that charge was dismissed.
