PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Thousands of Oregon families will have a holiday meal thanks to a big donation made Tuesday.

Foster Farms donated more than 14,000 pounds of turkey to the Oregon Food Bank, an amount the company said will provide 16,000 meals for families.

Frank Panarra with Foster Farms told FOX 12 the company likes working with the Oregon Food Bank to help partner with other agencies to get food to those in need, especially at this time of year.

"We are really happy to do that. Thanksgiving is a time that families like to sit down and feast, if you will, and give thanks for what they have accomplished over the last year," he said.

Myrna Jensen with the Oregon Food Bank said the donation was very important to their efforts and will help then further the reach of their monetary donations.

“Protein is one of the most expensive things we have to purchase a lot of times,” she said. “We are very grateful for a donation of turkey and we know, too, that people will really enjoy it.”

In total, Foster Farms said their donations to programs this year will provide enough food for more than 160,000 servings of food between Oregon, California and Washington.
