Deputies: Lebanon man arrested for possession of stolen gun

Posted: Updated:

Linn County deputies arrested a 28-year-old Lebanon man on multiple charges Tuesday morning including theft of a firearm.

A Linn County Sheriff's Office patrol lieutenant stopped Ryan Kenneth Garman on Gore Drive at 2:16 a.m. for riding a bicycle without a light. The lieutenant was aware of several property crimes that recently happened in the area, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said Garman initially gave the lieutenant a fake name and was "acting very nervous." After further investigation, the lieutenant learned Garman's real name and that he had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

As the lieutenant was arresting Garman, he began to reach in his waistband. The sheriff's office said the lieutenant was able to get Garman into handcuffs. The lieutenant then found a stolen 9mm handgun in Garman's waistband.

After he was detained, Garman cooperated and took deputies back to his home where, according to the sheriff's office, more stolen property was found.

The sheriff's office said Garman was responsible for a burglary that happened on Nov. 9 where a competition bow was stolen. That bow was one of the stolen items recovered.

Garman lodged at the Linn County Jail on charges of burglary in the first degree, theft in the first degree, theft of a firearm and unlawful carrying a concealed weapon. His outstanding warrants were for contempt of court, theft in the second degree and fail to comply.

Deputies are continuing the investigation.
