One day after it was reported Caleb Porter was moving on as head coach of the Portland Timbers, the team confirmed the news Friday.

"During Caleb’s five seasons with our club, we reached new heights and accomplished great things together… he has been a friend whom I have enjoyed working with,” said Timbers owner Merritt Paulson in a news release Friday.

During his time with the Timbers, Porter was named 2013 MLS Coach of the Year after leading the team to a 14-5-15 record.

In 2015, Porter led the Timbers to their first MLS Cup title with a 2-1 win against Columbus Crew SC.

During his five seasons in the Rose City, Porter compiled a 68-50-52 record.

Porter's departure comes after the team finished first-place in the Western Conference this year.

“My goal in taking the Timbers job was to lead the club to new heights and to win things that had never been done by the organization,” Porter continued. “Looking back and reflecting on my time with the Timbers, I am very proud of the results we all achieved and I know that joining the club in 2013 was one of the best decisions of my life. I also am confident that the Timbers are poised for future success.”

Porter also thanked the Timbers’ fans, particularly the Timbers Army, for their passionate support of the team.

It seems Porter is leaving the area, as he said he and his wife will miss Portland.

There was no word in Friday’s release on Porter’s next plans, but he said he is looking forward to what’s to come.

“I’m emotional thinking about leaving but also look forward to what’s ahead in the next chapter of my career.”

Timber general manager Gavin Wilkinson said the team is “sincerely thankful and indebted to Caleb for his immense contributions and wish him and his family all the best as he moves on.”

The Timbers said the search for Porter’s replacement is currently underway.
