Police: Fire at Vancouver business destroys 2 cars, damages 3 others

Posted: Updated:

Two cars in Vancouver were charred down to the frame, and now police are searching for the people who set them on fire.

The cars burst into flames early Monday morning at Woodrow Truck and Equipment, and another three cars were damaged because of the heat.

Investigators with the Vancouver Police Department do not think the fire was an accident and have assigned an arson specialist to the case.

The owner of the business, Steve DeGrandpre, told FOX 12 he believes someone was trying to siphon gas because he found a hose still in one of the tanks.

He also said neighbors thought the gas tanks were blowing up.

"It sounds like a stick of dynamite going off as a tire goes. They're pretty powerful," DeGrandpre explained. "I was hoping the building wasn't on fire because that could put me out of business.”

Surveillance photos show a person's outline and the flames bursting from one of the cars.

DeGrandpre said he's adding more lights and cameras and estimated the total damage at about $4,500.
