A 51-year-old man was arrested by Oregon State Police Saturday night near Redmond after troopers found 40 pounds of marijuana and a concealed handgun during a traffic stop.

At 10 p.m. Saturday, OSP troopers stopped a white 2008 Ford Crown Victoria on Highway 97 near milepost 143 for numerous traffic infractions.

OSP said the driver, identified as Jeffery Scott Heiner of Boise, Idaho, had bought the Crown Victoria just 20 minutes earlier in La Pine.

Troopers said Heiner was driving while impaired.

A drug detection K-9 with Redmond police was requested to the scene.

OSP said several items were found in Heiner’s possession: 40 pounds of marijuana and marijuana extracts, Xanax and a concealed handgun.

Heiner faces multiple charges including unlawful possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, delivery and possession in excess of 8 pounds of marijuana, possession of more than 1/4 ounce of marijuana extract, unlawful exportation of marijuana and marijuana extract, reckless driving, reckless endangering and hit and run.

OSP is investigating whether Heiner was involved in a hit and run involving a vehicle he abandoned in La Pine earlier Saturday evening.
