Holiday travel rush takes off at PDX

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Officials with the Port of Portland say Thursday and Friday will be peak holiday travel days for flyers in and out of Portland International Airport.

More than 63,000 passengers are expected to pass through each of those days.

Travelers Thursday told FOX 12 the best plan of attack was to get to the airport early. They were already packing PDX by mid-morning and said the process of checking in was quick and easy.

Port officials said the rest of this week and next week will cap off another record-breaking year for the airport, and a busy airport means that parking was busy, too.

Flyers looking to use the economy parking lot found it already 79 percent full by 9 a.m., and those lots jumped to 85 percent full by 4 p.m.

Port police officers remind travelers that even though the lots are secure, they should remove valuables from their vehicles.
