PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man caught shoplifting at a northeast Portland hardware store threatened employees with a hammer and then stole the hammer, according to police.

Officers responded to Ace Hardware on the 200 block of Northeast Broadway Street at 12:06 p.m. Thursday.

Employees told police they confronted a man who was seen stealing from the store. The man then grabbed a roofing hammer and threatened the employees, according to police, before running from the store with the hammer and other stolen items.

Officers searched the area and located the suspect nearby. Police said the roofing hammer and several stolen items were found and collected as evidence.

Mark C. Aquirre, 38, was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail on the charge of first-degree robbery.
