A 58-year-old man told law enforcement this weekend he killed a man in 1986 and wanted to turn himself in to “right the wrong that he has done.”
Glenn Eric Adams was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail Saturday and faces murder and robbery charges, the Longview Police Department says.
According to Longview Police, Adams said he was connected to Russell Haines’ death 32 years ago.
Haines was killed March 13, 1986, the police department says. Investigators believe Haines was ambushed by Adams in his room at the Oregon Way Hotel in Longview.
The county coroner said Haines’ cause of death was asphyxia by strangulation. There are no known witnesses in the case, according to officers.
Detectives are reviewing the case for any additional pieces of information or evidence that could be relevant now that a suspect has been identified.
Several pieces of evidence have been sent to Washington State Patrol crime lab for analysis and possible comparison to Adams’ DNA profile, the police department confirms.
No lab results are available at this time.
Adams was living at the Oregon Way Hotel at the time of Haines’ murder. He is currently believed to be homeless and has recently lived in California, Oregon and Washington state.
