Pedestrian crossing Salem street seriously injured after being hit by multiple vehicles

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A pedestrian crossing a Salem street sustained life-threatening injuries after being hit by multiple vehicles Thursday.

Emergency crews responded to Front Street Southeast and Ferry Street Southeast at 11:45 a.m.

Police said a male pedestrian was attempting to cross Front Street when he was struck. He was taken to the hospital with injuries described as life-threatening.

The name and age of the pedestrian were not immediately released.

The drivers that struck him remained at the scene and are cooperating with investigators.

The off-ramp from the Center Street Bridge to southbound Front Street Southeast was shut down following the crash. Southbound Front Street Southeast was closed starting at Union Street Northeast.

The intersection of southbound Front Street and State Street was also closed. The closures were expected to be in place until around 3 p.m. Thursday.
