In the spirit of summer baseball, the Hillsboro Hops players paid a visit to some special kids Tuesday.

The team stopped by Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to chat with kids and give them new baseball gear.

The players went room to room, posing for photos, signing autographs and hanging out with patients and families.

“Sometimes, I think we get caught up in baseball, that is the only thing we do,” Shawn Roof, Hillsboro Hops manager, said. “We gotta realize that there are other things in life outside of baseball. It is good for these guys to get away from the field and the day-to-day.”

The Hops players say it felt great to get off the field and plug into the community.
