WASCO COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A wildfire that burned through hundreds of acres in Wasco County Thursday night is now contained, according to fire officials.

The Cow Canyon Fire started before 1 p.m. Thursday between Cow Canyon and the Highway 197 and 97 interchange, the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office says.

Firefighters Thursday night worked to control the flames and stop the fire from advancing. Crews remained on scene Friday morning to extinguish hot spots.

Level 1 evacuation orders in Shaniko and Antelope have been lifted.

Fire officials estimate the blaze burned through more than 500 acres. It's not clear what sparked the blaze.

Other agencies on scene Thursday included the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office and Oregon State Police.
