PORTLAND, Ore. -- A new high-tech video alarm system helped in the recent arrests of three men at area businesses this week. The wireless digital cameras are activated by motion and transmit a 10-second video clip to a monitoring station, where someone is watching and calls the business.Chad Woods, manager at Arrow Striping, said his business lost thousands of dollars in the theft of truck batteries, tools, engines, diesel and gas."They've cut holes so many times that it's pointless to fix them," he said.Woods installed the new video alarm system that helped police catch two thieves on two different nights this week.Anderson Construction also uses the system and police said it helped in the arrest of one man this week. Manager Ben Miles said it paid for itself compared to hiring a full-time security guard."When you have one security guard running around, he can only cover so many areas at a time," Miles said.Woods said he'll sleep better now that he knows he has a solution."(It) makes you feel a lot better because you feel vulnerable getting ripped off day after day," he said. For more information on the alarm systems, visit aactvision.com or aact.coppertheft.info.
