LONGVIEW, Wash. -- City officials in Longview are considering installing red-light cameras at intersections around the city.Residents organized a meeting to talk about the cameras and potential alternatives Wednesday night. Opponents said the cameras don't create safer roads and they argued they will lead to more rear-end collisions.About 36 people showed up to the meeting and many said they oppose the cameras."I believe that some of the other suggestions might work better -- having the yellow light longer or having a double red light or identifying it more," said Susan Wemmer, who was against the cameras.Opponents said the cameras are simply a way for the city to make more money.City officials, however, said money earned from the cameras would go into a traffic safety fund, rather than the city's general fund.
