A bicyclist died when she was struck by a car on Highway 101 near Lincoln City on Sunday night.

The woman unexpectedly fell over on her bicycle into the southbound lane and directly in front of a car heading south, said Sgt. Jeffrey Winn of the Lincoln City Police Department. The car immediately struck the bicyclist, who police identified as 26-year-old Kit Yang Charlene Pun, of Calgary, Canada.

Two bystanders performed CPR on Pun shortly after the collision, but police pronounced her dead at the scene. The driver of the car, 86-year-old Doral Bray, cooperated with the investigation and stayed at the scene of the crash, police said.

Pun and her friends were traveling through Oregon by bicycle. Two of her friends with her at the time of the wreck were not injured.

Winn said the bicyclists were in the center turn lane of the highway when Pun fell over.

The police investigation shut down Highway 101 for three hours. No citations were issued in the crash.
