GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. -- Winter is starting to take hold on Mount Hood. The area is under a winter weather advisory until 4 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.Heavy snow showers pounded Government Camp and the surrounding area, leaving enough snow for Timberline to open the Pucci and Bruno lifts Saturday. The storm is expected to dump 2 to 3 feet of snow, according to weather reports. Some people on the mountain said they were looking forward to the upcoming season."Oh, it's freaking awesome. I've been praying for snow for such a long time and storms keep on coming and melting. And it looks like this one's going to stick," said Tony Botts, a snowboarder.Others said they'll enjoy the snow, but not the winter driving."I love it, but the driving conditions scare me a little bit. (I'm) not used to the snow," said Kaitlyn Crosby, who works at Timberline. The National Weather Service said the snow level in the Oregon Cascades will hover between 3,500 and 4,000 feet Friday and Saturday, then fall again Saturday night.A winter weather advisory for snow means that snow will cause travel difficulties. Drivers should be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility.
